Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park “The World’s only Wildlife Capital” A short drive out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park. Wide open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. Visitors can enjoy the park’s picnic sites, three campsites and the walking trails for hikers.

Best time to visit Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park can be visited year-round, but wildlife viewing is best during the Dry season (June to October). Wildlife watching is more difficult during the long rains (March to May) and the short rains (November to December), although the timing of these rains has become less predictable in recent years. Some tracks can become extremely muddy after heavy rain and grasses tend to be high.

Key Considerations for Your Visit:
Best Time of Day: Early morning (6 AM – 10 AM) or late afternoon is best to catch active predators.
Dry Season (June–Oct): Prime game viewing, comfortable temperatures, and dry roads.
Wet Season (March–May, Nov–Dec): Park is lush, green, and great for birdwatching; however, some roads may be muddy.
Crowds: The park is busiest from July to October and December to January.
Activities: Ideal for viewing lions, rhinos, giraffes, and zebras, as well as visiting the Ivory Burning Site and Hippo Pool.
